Pastoral Care provides Christian support to members of our congregation who are ill, grieving, or facing other life crises, as well as those who may no longer be physically able to attend church regularly or participate actively in church activities.
Pastoral Care is provided through many programs including:
HOME VISITS - In addition to visits by pastors, our Coordinator of Pastoral Care, Pastoral Care Assistant, deacons, and other trained members of the church make personal contact with assigned care recipients at least once a month to affirm our interdependence as a church family.
EXTENDED COMMUNION - On Communion Sundays, deacons deliver communion to members who are homebound or facing health challenges.
COMPASSION GUILD - The Guild assists church staff and families when a family member dies by coordinating ushers and arranging for receptions for funerals and memorial services at the church.
DEACONS MEALS TEAM - A group of deacons maintains a list of volunteers and coordinates meals for church members with short-term needs. If you are able to prepare and deliver a meal on occasion for a member, please contact Deacon Lisa Zickar.
MEMBER RESPONSE TEAM - The MRT is a joint venture of the Board of Deacons and the Local Missions Committee to address special needs of members. The MRT connects members with church and/or local resources to address job loss, counseling needs, transition issues related to immigration, short term financial assistance, and other emergency needs. Click here for more details on the Member Response Team.
MEDICAL CLOSET - Durable items such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, bath benches, and commodes are available for loan through the church office.
LITERATURE - Information on geriatric topics such as retirement homes, insurance, and care-giving is available from the office of the Pastoral Care Coordinator.
THE PRAYER CHAIN - Some 40 Westminster members covenant to pray regularly for those needs shared through our email prayer chain.
JOYS AND CONCERNS - A listing of joys and concerns appears weekly in our bulletin so that worshippers may take this listing home for use in their personal prayers.
THE CARE LINE - By calling (703) 684-2934, members get information on this recorded line about births, weddings, deaths and upcoming memorial services.
For more information about these programs, please contact Pastoral Care Coordinator Eileen Jinks at ejinks@wpc-alex.org.
